Meet Our Coaches:  David Rickabaugh

This is part of our "Meet Our Coaches" series. We will post these interviews periodically.   Learn more about all of our Leadership Coaches on our Meet the Team page.

Q: Tell us about the moment you knew you wanted to be a leadership coach:

A: It was less a “moment” and more of an evolution.  I had a well-developed reputation as a leader who developed talent and cared for my team, and when I started my own personal development journey about 15 years ago, it became clear this is what I wanted to do.

Q: What is one of the most memorable moments in your coaching career?

A: When I debriefed a client on really rough set of 360 results, and I was really worried about the impact the results would have on my client.  I was able to hold the space for the client, help him lean into curiosity and explore the data without being defensive, and then I watched him show resilience and resolve in owning the feedback - and his behavior - and develop his plan to be a better leader.

Q: What's your favorite thing about working at Henley Leadership Group?

A: Well, first I love how engaged and committed our clients are to their own leadership journeys.  And I really appreciate how supportive and collaborative the HLG team is.

Q: How are you developing yourself as a leader?

A: I’m continuing to work to be more intentional and purpose driven while being less reactive, leveraging mindfulness and self awareness.

Q: What are you reading right now?

A: "The Power of Different – The Link Between Genius and Disorder” by Gail Saltz, MD.

Q: What’s making you happy this week?

A: I’m so happy to be working with a great group of clients, who trust me enough to be vulnerable with me and who are continually working to have the patience and courage to grow.
