Q: Tell us about the moment you knew you wanted to be a leadership coach:
A: After retiring from a long career as a tax consultant, I knew that I would like to do what I enjoyed most as a consultant, to work with teams, to lead groups and to help people and businesses grow. Having coached hundreds of people during my business career, I knew that I would like to continue to do so in a new way, also without having to keep up with the tax laws! I love bringing my business acumen, team leadership experience, and coaching skills to a new set of clients.
Q: What is one of the most memorable moments in your coaching career?
A: I was working with a client who had recently been promoted to team leader. The transition had been a difficult one, resulting in an unhappy team and an unhappy leader. After working together for a few months, my client told me that he thought he would have been fired or quit his job if not for the coaching. He said it had an impact not only at work, but also how he showed up at home with his wife and his kids.
Q: What's your favorite thing about working at Henley Leadership Group?
A: Does it sound trite to say the people? Such a great group of coaches. Every last one of them. But what makes me proud to work at the Henley Leadership Group (HLG) is the content of the leadership programs. Having attended many, many leadership workshops over my long career as a business consultant, I’m in a unique position to compare the quality of HLG’s programs with other leadership specialists. They are best in class. Impactful content, fun delivery, business tested. HLG can provide a Return on Investment (ROI) analysis for the work they do, and as a business person, I love that I can share with my clients how good coaching impacts the bottom line.
Q: How are you developing yourself as a leader?
A: I’m currently co-leading two cohorts of coaches-in-training who are completing an International Coaching Federation (ICF) Certified coach program. It’s a great responsibility and privilege to help develop new coaches, knowing the impact that coaching will have on their clients. As the co-leader of these cohorts, I have the opportunity to team with a Master Coach from whom, I am constantly learning and growing.
Q: What are you reading right now?
A: I always have a couple of books going at a time, on my e-reader or on my nightstand. Currently I’m just finishing up Hit Refresh: The Quest to Rediscover Microsoft’s Soul by Satya Nadella. I also am enjoying Michelle Obama’s memoir, Becoming.
Q: What’s making you happy this week?
A: I’m happy that I’m getting lots of exercise while trying to beat the daily exercise goals I set for myself on new my iWatch. It’s such a task master, but I have to say I love it !
